Dating in your 30s: A completely different ball game

Many people – in particular women – tend to panic if they hit the big 3-0 without being involved in a serious relationship. By that age, many of their contemporaries have already got married, with some having started families of their own. Worryingly, Time revealed in an article that men prefer dating women in their twenties.

However, does hitting 30 mean you’re over the hill? Not necessarily. In fact, it can work to your advantage, because reaching 30 means you’re more experienced and already know what you want, including from your dates. So this article will serve as a guide to help you manoeuvre your way into the dating scene in your 30s.

Expect anything

YouQueen reminds women that it is possible to find yourself dating someone with baggage, as people in their 30s or older have accumulated some scars along the way. As such, get to know the person and see if you can deal with their emotional baggage. You might even find yourself with someone who has already been married in the past, or already has kids. Therefore, it’s always best to keep an open mind.

Consider online dating

If you’re interested in meeting a partner, Bustle says it might be a good idea to go online says it might be a good idea to go online to find potential dates. This is particularly important if you do not get out a lot, because it means you are reducing your chances of meeting someone new. However, be cautious, because we are sure you’re aware of the many true horror stories about online dating.

Be picky

That being said, just because you’re in your 30s doesn’t mean you have to settle for just about anyone. More than ever, it’s important you take care in who you date. There are usually three reasons why men in their 30s or older haven’t married: they can’t commit, they have been emotionally scarred because of previous relationships or they aren’t ready for a relationship.

Show your confidence

For some people, nothing is sexier than confidence. Digital gaming providers Foxy Bingo imparts useful tips on its players via their trusty mascot Foxy. The loveable furry character has a blog series called ‘What Would Foxy Do?’ and in it he suggests that your body language can say a lot about you. The fox went on to state that you should give the right signals in any social situation. Some tips include maintaining eye contact and adjusting your body towards the person you are conversing with to show them you’re interested in what they are saying.

Be yourself

As cliché as it may sound, you should always be yourself. Being in your 30s means having a good idea about who you are and what you like. As such, being yourself will not only help you determine what you like in a partner, it will also allow you and your date to see if the relationship is worth pursuing, or if you’re better off as friends. After all, if you have a busy life, you might not have the time – or the patience – to spare for games.

If you’re in your 30s and still have not settled down with someone, don’t panic! The Huffington Post says that many people in this age group have realised that relationships do not make or break a person’s life. While it can be enjoyable to be in a relationship, it will not make you whole. As such, focus on developing yourself. A partner in your life will just be a bonus.
